Electronics and IoT
Add the next dimension to your art making it interactive, reactive, connected and “alive”
Physical Computing
It sounds scary, but it is where computers and software gain the ability to perceive the environment and show physical behaviour with lights, sound and movement. Robots are in this domain, but much smaller and common devices like your smartphone can sense many parameters of the environment and react accordingly. Smartphones can feel your tap on the screen to turn it on or change the orientation of the screen when you turn them from portrait to landscape and vice-versa. They measure the distance of your face from the screen and know where the Magnetic North is. When they want to catch your attention while in your pocket they vibrate. All these behaviours are made possible by sensors and actuators that in many years have been developed and reduced to sizes suitable for integration into smartphones. As components, they are also available for our projects and designs thanks to the huge community of makers that represent a significant market for Chinese manufacturers that regularly offer each and every sensor as a little standalone module. An industry standard makes interfacing another easy job. The bottom line is that if you saw something done by something technological, there are very good chances that we can replicate the same behaviour with sophisticated, yet affordable technology.
Standalone or connected
Interactions and behaviours can be something implemented locally, in standalone configurations, or they can be orchestrated across multiple devices, in the same space or scattered around the world thanks to several communication solutions.
We can have several objects interact between them, sharing some information with simple communication solutions, like infrared, or we can switch to Bluetooth or WiFi depending on the type of information and the distance.
We are prepared to offer you a range of solutions, with costs, maintenance and complexity sized to the requirements of your installation.
The microcontrollers we use are capable of connecting with the Internet and extract information from services like the Meteo or the social networks, collecting data, trending topics or the sentiment about some keywords and there is no limit to the kind of interaction you can achieve. Imagine some device that ligths up of different colors and pulses according to the amount of tweets with a specific hashtag, or prepare a page on web that allows someone to interact remotely.
Really, here the limit is your imagination and turning any information on the Internet into some perceivable by human senses is mindblowing.
Let’s talk about it
The possibilities offered by Electronics, Microcontrollers and the Internet of Things are so many that you might be aware of just a little set of them. We can give you the basics and many hints about the many solutions available, or you might already have the know-how and just need some guidance to do the best implementation. In both cases, we are here to help and provide you with all the relevant information to turn theory into real solutions. Going through the Achievements sections you may find clues and ideas, but we encourage you to let your mind roam freely without limits because there is always a solution, you just need to put the right questions.
